# Configure Catalog Image Settings in B2C Commerce

In B2C Commerce, configure catalog image settings only when the settings created with the catalog differ from what you want, or to add a catalog-level variation attribute. Default alt text and title fill in only when an image has none of its own, so you leave them unchanged before you assign images.

[Which Salesforce Commerce Product Do I Have?](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=commerce.comm_what_product.htm&language=en_US)

A new B2C Commerce catalog already has these image settings. For the full defaults, see [Image Management in B2C Commerce](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=cc.b2c_image_management.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Before you assign product images in B2C Commerce, learn the terms, limits, and catalog location. Then choose the topic for assigning images, catalog settings, view types, swatches, alt text, storage, or a size, crop, or format.").

- An internal image location
- Base path `/`
- View types large, medium, small, and swatch
- Alt text and title `${productname}`, which inserts the product name
- No catalog-level variation attribute

These settings can be saved before any product exists.

B2C Commerce catalog image settings support multiple variation attributes. The settings enable you to specify images for combinations of variation attributes, for example color (red, green, blue) and fabric (leather, textile) for all new products.

When you set a catalog variation attribute, such as color, Image Manager shows the base product and a level for each value, such as the colors.

1. Click App Launcher ![App Launcher](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-cc-b2c_merchandiser_administrator-264-0-0-production-enus/ea76f372-6cfa-42a6-8e7c-05c6df7abed8/cc/b2c_merchandiser_administrator/images/appLauncher.png), and then select **Merchant Tools** | **Products and Catalogs** | **Catalogs**. Click **Edit** for the catalog you want, and then click the **Image Settings** tab.
2. Specify these values:

    - Image Location. Choose Internal or External. For internal images, specify the base path, for example, `/your/special/images/`, which points to a folder in the catalog image directory. A base path of "/" is the root of the catalog image directory. For External, the HTTP URL is required and the HTTPS URL is a separate field. See [Image Management in B2C Commerce](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=cc.b2c_image_management.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Before you assign product images in B2C Commerce, learn the terms, limits, and catalog location. Then choose the topic for assigning images, catalog settings, view types, swatches, alt text, storage, or a size, crop, or format.") for how those locations and paths work.
    - View Types. Enter the view type names. See [Image View Types and Variants in B2C Commerce](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=cc.b2c_understanding_view_types.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Use B2C Commerce view types to group product images by usage context, such as large, medium, small, and swatch, and assign different images to each product variation.") for the default view types large, medium, small, and swatch. To add a view type, click **Add View Type**. Provide a value, and click **Apply**. To remove a view type, clear a view type field, and click **Apply**. View types must be unique per catalog.
    - Variation Attribute ID. Before you enter an ID, make sure the attribute is already defined on the base product's Variations tab. For steps, see [Assign Images to Products in B2C Commerce](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=cc.b2c_managing_images.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "In B2C Commerce, attach an image to a product so the storefront can show it. Assign images on the base product, and a variation product uses those images."). Enter the ID of a variation attribute, such as `color`. The Image Manager window uses this attribute as the default way to group images. For example, if you enter `color`, the first level of the tree shows the color values available for the product. If you leave this setting blank, `${variationvalue}` is replaced with an empty string. This also happens if the image group has no variation value, or if the attribute or its value can't be found.
    - Default Image Alt. Enter the default alternative image text. Enter words, any of the markers `${productname}`, `${variationvalue}`, and `${viewtype}`, or words and markers together.
    - Default Image Title. Enter the default image title. Enter words, any of the markers `${productname}` and `${variationvalue}`, or words and markers together.
3. To save your changes, click **Apply**.
