# Connect and Prepare Data in Tableau Next

You can access data for creating visualizations and dashboards by connecting to data directly (Data 360 DMOs and CIOs), by connecting to a semantic model that already has a data connection, or by uploading your own data from CSV files. Use Tableau Semantics within Tableau Next to create a semantic model and semantic calculated dimensions and measures.

    You can analyze any data that's available in your workspace. You can access data in Data 360 from data assets such as an existing data model object (DMO), Data Lake Object (DLO) and Connections, or upload your own data from files or cloud-based resources. Changes you make in Tableau Next don't affect the source data in Data 360 or in your original files.
