# Tooltips in Tableau Next Visualizations

Gain deeper insights into your data by reviewing additional context for a data mark in a Tableau Next visualization with custom tooltips. By default, a tooltip includes information based on the fields in the visualization. Customize the tooltip to control its content and appearance.

### Required Editions

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small edition"><colgroup><col></colgroup><tbody><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;"><a href="https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=analytics.tua_editions.htm&amp;language=en_US" target="_blank">View supported editions.</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

This table describes the content, formatting, appearance, and display options that you can configure in a custom tooltip.

              <p style="margin-bottom:0;">Choose whether to show the tooltip and command buttons. Command buttons allow you
                to include or exclude data directly from a mark.</p>
            </td>

          </tr>
        </tbody>
      </table>

Keep these factors in mind when reviewing the content of a default tooltip:

- When the Marks card is divided into sections, each mark’s tooltip includes fields from the section associated with its pane and from the All section.
- In a map that uses a combination of latitude and longitude fields to position marks, the tooltip includes the underlying latitude and longitude fields.

## Customize Tooltips in Tableau Next Visualizations

Customize a tooltip to give analysts useful context as they examine a data mark in a visualization. Choose which fields and parameters to include, format the content to make key details easy to scan, and add command buttons that analysts can use to include or exclude data directly from the mark.
