Enter text, numbers, or dates into parameter widgets for lookup and modeling hypothetical scenarios. Dashboard calculations update instantly by using your custom values rather than just existing data.

### Required Editions

In this example, logistics managers can use manual date entries to perform "what-if" analysis on project timelines without altering live data. By manually inputting hypothetical ship date delays, the dashboard instantly recalculates downstream impacts and identifies potential bottlenecks.

1. Create a parameter.
    1. Parameter Name: Shipping Delay
    2. Data Type: **Date**
    3. Parameter Type: **Single Value**
    4. Default Value: Today's date
2. Create a calculated field for the parameter with the logic for evaluating the ship\_date field.
3. Open the dashboard and add a parameter widget.
4. Click **Add Parameter** and select your parameter.
5. Save and preview your dashboard.
6. Test the parameter by using the date picker to view how date changes impact the dashboard.
