# Preview a Record from a Report (Beta)

Review and work with records directly from a report instead of opening each record on a separate page. Turn on preview mode to open records in a side panel while keeping the report visible. Record preview is available only in the report view mode.

### Required Editions

Note Record Preview in Lightning Reports is a pilot or beta service that is subject to the Beta Services Terms at [Agreements - Salesforce.com](https://www.salesforce.com/company/legal/) or a written Unified Pilot Agreement if executed by Customer, and applicable terms in the [Product Terms Directory](https://ptd.salesforce.com/). Use of this pilot or beta service is at the Customer’s sole discretion.

1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Reports and select **Reports and Dashboards Settings**.
2. Select **Show record previews on Lightning Reports (Beta)**.
3. Open a report, and then click ![Eye icon for record preview](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-analytics-analytics-264-0-0-production-enus/295fead5-b71d-4e1c-9886-4af4d53400b6/analytics/images/rd_eye_icon_record_preview.png) at the top of the report run page.

4. In the report, select a record link.
    
    The record opens in a side panel next to the report.
5. Review the record details and interact with it directly from the side panel:
    - To view more information in a pop-up, hover over the links in the Related List Quick Links section.
    - To open the record in a new tab, click any action buttons at the top of the panel.

Note To open a record on its own page instead of in the side panel, select ![Eye icon for record preview](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-analytics-analytics-264-0-0-production-enus/295fead5-b71d-4e1c-9886-4af4d53400b6/analytics/images/rd_eye_icon_record_preview.png) again to turn off preview mode.
