# Switch Between a 12- or 9-Column Dashboard Layout

Both the 12-column and 9-column dashboard gives you plenty of room to lay out data in easy-to-consume ways.

Any dashboard can have 12 or 9 columns.

When switching to a 9-column dashboard from a 12-column dashboard, even with 12 widgets in a single row, the dashboard updates its layout. No need to remove or move widgets before switching.

When switching to a 12-column dashboard from a 9-column dashboard, three empty columns appear on the right side of the dashboard.

1. Create or edit a dashboard.
2. To switch between a 12-column and 9-column layout, open the Properties menu by clicking ![the gear icon](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-analytics-analytics-264-0-0-production-enus/295fead5-b71d-4e1c-9886-4af4d53400b6/analytics/images/rd/rd_settings_gear.png).
    1. Under Dashboard Grid Size, choose the number of columns.
    2. Click **Save**.
3. Click **Save**.

The dashboard layout updates.
