# Copy a Generated Semantic Query

Use the copied semantic query to access data from your semantic model in Business Intelligence (BI) tools that don't automatically display your semantic model data as a standard table. Before you can copy the semantic query, you must first preview the semantic model and test a query.

1. In Data Cloud, on the Semantic Layer tab, select a data model.
2. At the top-right corner of the Semantic Model Builder, click **Test Model**.
3. Prepare the test outline, add filters, and configure other options. See [Test a Semantic Model](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=analytics.c360_a_sl_testing_smodel_test.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "You can run a test at any point from your semantic model. Make sure you don’t have any errors in your model before running tests.").

A data preview is generated based on your selected dimensions, measures, and filters. The Copy Semantic Query button becomes available.
4. You can view the generated semantic query in the Semantic Query Preview tab.
5. To copy the SQL statement to your clipboard, click **Copy Semantic Query**.
