# Create, Extend, and Clone Models

Create, extend, and clone semantic models.

Create a New Model

1. Open the Command Palette and run `Tableau Semantic: Create Model`.
2. Provide the model details.
    
    - Model and API name
    - Dataspace selection
    - Initial data objects
3. Choose a folder location.

The extension creates a model folder with the selected configuration.

## Extend an Existing Model

Create a model that inherits from a base model.

1. Open the Command Palette and run `Tableau Semantic: Extend Model`.
2. Select the base model to extend.
3. Provide a name and API name for the new model.
4. Choose a folder location.

The extension creates a model with a `base/` folder containing the inherited model definition.

## Clone a Model

Duplicate an existing model under a new name.

1. Right-click `model.json` and choose **Clone Model**.
2. Provide a new name and API name.
3. Choose a folder location.

The extension creates an independent copy of the model.
