# Considerations for Rules

Keep a few considerations in mind when defining rules in a Search Manager configuration.

### Required Editions

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small edition"><colgroup><col></colgroup><tbody><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: Einstein Search in Lightning Experience</td></tr></tbody></table>

- You can define up to 10 rules per object in a search configuration.
- You can define rules on filterable fields of type Lookup, Picklist, RecordType, and Checkbox.
- A record must meet all the rules defined to appear in the search results.
- Rules apply to Search Answers, instant results, recommended results, and keyword search.
- If you define a rule on a lookup field in the source Salesforce org, and the Value field matches no records or multiple records in the destination org, the migration fails. For example, if you set the Value field to Example in the source org, and there are no records named Example or if multiple records are named Example in the destination org, the migration fails. Usernames are unique between orgs, so you can’t migrate rules defined with usernames.
- Rules defined for a field only apply to users who have read access to the field.
