1. In Setup, in the Quick Find Box, enter Permission Sets, and then select **Permission Sets**.
2. Edit or create a permission set for the federated search external object.
3. Click **Object Settings** in the Apps section.
4. Click the name of the new object you created in Step 10 of [Create the External Object](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=ai.search_experience_create_obj.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Enabling federated search is a two-phase process. First include the external site in the search engine scope, and then expose the results to your customers.")
5. Click **Edit** and select **Enabled** in the Object Permissions section.
6. Click **Save**.

Now the object is readable, but you still have to assign privileges to the Community User Profile so Site Members can see the results.
7. Go to your site Administration settings in Workspaces.
8. Select **Members**.
9. Select the appropriate profiles and assign them the new permission set.
10. Click **Save**.
