# How Search Crowding Affects Search Results

Search crowding–having too many unhelpful search results–can overwhelm you with irrelevant records and slow down search. To avoid search crowding, the search engine limits the number of records it analyzes. Learn how to adjust your searches for the best results.

records. Search limits the results to the first 2,000 records found, so 1,200 records aren’t
            included in your search results.</td>

          <td data-label="Suggestion" class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;" headers="d8358e44 ">Use a more specific search term, such as <kbd>Industrial Computing San
Francisco</kbd>. Also be specific about the type of object that you’re searching for.
For example, if you’re looking for an account record, search for <kbd>Industrial
              Computing</kbd> in Accounts.</td>

records you don’t have access to. Of the 2,000 analyzed, you don’t have access to 100 of them
so you don’t see them in your results. You only see 1,900 records returned.</td>

<td data-label="Suggestion" class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;" headers="d8358e44 ">Make your search more specific by entering the complete term. The search engine’s
priority is to return accessible records for users with limited access in an org. Admins can
also check profile and permission settings for access to objects.</td>

          <td data-label="Issue" class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;" headers="d8358e38 ">Lookup search returns fewer results</td>

<p>From an account record, you search for <kbd>Hotel</kbd> in the parent
account name field. There are 150 matching records. </p>
<p style="margin-bottom:0;">For Salesforce Classic, if enhanced
lookups is enabled, you see 25 results at a time and can page through to see the remaining
results. If enhanced lookups is disabled, you see all records at once on a single page. In
the advanced search, only the first matching 200 results get returned, and you see a message
              to refine the search criteria.</p>
          </td>

<td data-label="Suggestion" class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;" headers="d8358e44 ">When you use lookup fields to associate two records, enter the complete name. For
example, enter <kbd>Jupiter Hotels</kbd> instead of just
<kbd>Hotels</kbd>. A lookup search uses only the record name. Lookup searches
also have extra result limits and filters, depending on how an admin configures them.
