# Einstein Search Configuration Tips

When you set up Einstein Search for your users, be aware of these guidelines.

- Review the search layout for user sorting and filtering.
    - Users can sort and filter only the fields that are available on the search results page. You can choose the available fields for each object in the Search Results search layout.
    - Make sure the record’s object or field is searchable. See [Search Manager](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=ai.search_manager_configure.htm&type=5&language=en_US)

- Check whether an object’s tab is visible.
    - For standard objects, tab settings impact whether users see search results for an object. The tabs in the app’s navigation bar are determined by the user profile tab settings and the navigation bar settings. To make a tab visible for a user profile, make sure that the object’s tab setting is **Default On** and not Tab Hidden. If all tabs are hidden and you don’t select any items to appear in the navigation bar, no tabs are visible. In that case, Salesforce searches a list of commonly used standard objects, such as Account or Contact.
    - For custom objects to be searchable, make sure that the object has a tab and its tab is visible. The visibility must be correct for a user’s profile (don’t select **Tab Hidden**). Users don't have to add the tab to their display. The tabs are still searchable.

Note Enable the **Allow Search** option for custom objects to make them searchable. Searchability is disabled for custom objects that haven't been searched for more than 120 days. To enable object and field searchability, contact your admin.
    - To make the user object not searchable, ensure that both the People tab and Profile tab are marked as **Tab Hidden**. If Chatter is disabled, the user object isn't searchable regardless of tab settings.
    - Activities (Task and Event objects) are still searchable with tab visibility set to Tab Hidden.
    - If a user runs a SOSL query in the Developer Console, Apex code, or REST API, the object is searchable, even if the tab isn’t visible.

- Check user permissions and profiles.
    - A user must have permission to view search results. If a user doesn’t have access to a record, it doesn’t appear. Users inherit the same access permissions as users below them in the role hierarchy. Check the user permissions, such as org-wide defaults or role hierarchy settings, to make sure that users have the correct level of access. You can also manually grant access to user records so that others can access them. Granting access to a user record makes the user’s detail page visible to others. It also makes the user visible in lookups, list views, searches, and so on.

- **[Secondary Field Usage and Limitations](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=ai.search_lookup_faq_secondary_field_lex.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
The secondary field provides context to help you determine which record is the one you’re looking for. From the global search bar, the secondary field is beneath the record name and next to the object type. For lookups, it’s below the record name. Advanced lookup matches results against all searchable fields in a record, including the secondary field, while lookup suggestions don’t.
