Understand the Block Editor

The Block Editor is a visual, block-based canvas for building prompt templates. Add resources, format instructions, apply conditional logic, and rearrange text without writing HTML.

Required Editions

Available in: Lightning Experience
Available in: Enterprise, Performance, and Unlimited Editions with the Einstein for Platform, or Einstein or Agentforce for Sales or Service add-on, or Agentforce Foundations

The Block Editor replaces the Classic Editor as the default authoring experience in Prompt Builder. New prompt templates open in the Block Editor. Existing templates stay in the Classic Editor until you convert them.

Review the benefits of the Block Editor.

  • See your prompt structure at a glance with visual blocks.
  • Add resources through a menu instead of writing merge field syntax.
  • Format instructions with headings, lists, bold, italic, underline, and dividers.
  • Rearrange, duplicate, or delete sections of your prompt template with Block actions.
  • Apply conditional logic so that your prompt template adapts based on record data.

Format Prompt Instructions

Use headings, lists, and text styling to structure prompt instructions so that they’re easier to scan and maintain. Formatting is preserved through save, Preview, and generative AI at run time.

  • Type #, ##, or ### at the start of a block to convert it to a Big, Medium, or Small heading.
  • Select text and use the toolbar, or press Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I, or Ctrl+U (Windows) or Command+B, Command+I, or Command+U (macOS), to apply bold, italic, or underline. Markdown syntax also works as you type: **bold**, *italic*, and __underline__.
  • Type - at the start of a block to create a bulleted list. Numbered lists are also supported.
  • Type --- to insert a horizontal divider between sections.
  • Pasted Markdown, RTF, or HTML text keeps its formatting when you paste it into the canvas.
