Before you begin, [add the subagent you want to customize to an agent](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=ai.copilot_topics_add_standard.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "With standard subagents, your agents can start handling common business use cases quickly. You can create subagents and actions that are tailored to your business needs. When you add these subagents and actions to an agent, the agent gets its own, independent copy. Changes to template subagents and actions within the Asset Library aren't automatically sync'd to subagents and actions within your agent. Changes made to one agent's subagents or actions don't affect another agent's subagents or actions.").

1. From the Agentforce Agents Setup page, launch the agent you want to use with a customized subagent in Agentforce Builder.
2. If your agent is active, [deactivate it](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=ai.copilot_setup_activate_deactivate.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Activate your agent to make it available to your customers or employees. When an agent is deployed to one or more channels, including the Agentforce panel, activating the agent makes it immediately available to your users.").
3. From the left rail, select **Subagents**.
4. From the This Agent’s Subagents tab, select the subagent you want to edit.
5. To edit the subagent configuration, from the Subagent Configuration tab, edit the subagent fields you want to customize.
6. You can reorder the subagent instruction fields so that they are read in a specific order as well.

To learn more about these fields, see [Agent Subagents](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=ai.copilot_topics.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "A subagent is a particular job an agent can do and an essential element of an agent’s reasoning. A subagent contains actions, which are the tools available for the job, and instructions, which tell the agent how to make decisions. Collectively, the subagents assigned to your agent define the capabilities your agent can handle. Salesforce provides a library of standard subagents for common use cases, and you can create custom subagents to meet your users’ specific business needs.").
7. To add an action to your subagent, from the This Subagent’s Actions tab, click **New**. Create a custom agent action, or select the action or actions you want to add to your agent.
8. To remove an action from your subagent, from the This Subagent’s Actions tab, click the dropdown next to the action you want to remove, and then click **Remove from Agent**.
9. Save your changes. Your changes apply only to this agent and agent version.

The subagent you customized is assigned to your agent and replaces the original version. To test your new version, restart the preview conversation to apply your changes.

To revert your subagent to the original version from the asset library, from the left rail, select **Subagents**. From the This Agent’s Subagents tab, click the dropdown menu next to your customized subagent and select **Revert to Original**.
