# Requirements for MCP for Agentforce

Review the requirements to make sure you’re ready to register and use MCP servers in Agentforce.

### Required Editions

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small edition"><colgroup><col></colgroup><tbody><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: Lightning Experience</td></tr><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: <strong>Enterprise</strong>, <strong>Performance</strong>, <strong>Unlimited</strong>, and <strong>Developer</strong> Editions. <a href="https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=ai.agent_setup_explore_types.htm&amp;release=264.0.0&amp;type=5" title="Learn about agent types and default templates for specific clouds and common use cases.">Required add-on licenses vary by agent type.</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

Your MCP server must meet these requirements.

- Functional and can be reached via network connection.
- Uses the [Streamable HTTP transport protocol](https://modelcontextprotocol.io/specification/2025-03-26/basic/transports#streamable-http). HTTP+SSE is unsupported.
- If your server uses an authentication protocol, it must use OAuth 2.0 client credentials.

We recommend starting in a sandbox org with a new agent so you can safely test your agent’s performance and ensure compatibility. Then when you’re satisfied that your agent performs reliably, recreate your agent in a production org.

Before using MCP for Agentforce, complete these prerequisites.

- [Set up Einstein generative AI.](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=ai.generative_ai_enable.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Set up Einstein generative AI to get access to powerful generative AI features.")
- [Enable Agentforce.](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=ai.agent_setup_enable.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Turn on Agentforce to start building, customizing, testing, and launching AI agents.")
- [Create an agent in Agentforce Builder in Agentforce Studio.](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=ai.agent_setup_create.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Create intelligent, trusted, and customizable agents for your customers and employees.") Create an Agentforce Service agent or Agentforce Employee agent, which handle general use cases for customers or employees.

Note MCP for Agentforce isn’t supported for agents created in the legacy Agentforce Builder, because of differences in the data model and Atlas reasoning engine.
